By the 18th century tapestries were often copies of paintings. Subjects included rural landscapes, maritime and pastoral scenes. The paintings of Francois Boucher (1703-1770) greatly influenced the wall hangings in this category with many pastoral scenes embodying the frivolity and sensuousness of the rococo style of art. Many of these wall hangings use pastel colours and impart an air of serenity and tranquillity and are often successfully used as artwork in bedrooms and lounges to achieve a relaxing and pleasing environment. |
