HOW A TAPESTRY IS MADE
All of our Tapestry products are skilfully woven on a traditional Jacquard Loom. Jacquard Looms considerably increase the weaver's speed of production, reducing the cost without affecting the quality of the finished tapestry. Nonetheless, much work is still required to produce these, especially in the design processes. The selected design and its colouring has to be transposed onto the cartoon. A series of up to 36,000 Jacquard perforated cards are then prepared for each tapestry: these determine the movement of each warp yarn intertwining with the weft yarns. The loom is threaded with some 12,000 horizontal warp threads which are placed in the correct order on the loom and passed through the eye of each of the corresponding 12,000 vertical loom heddles.

HANGING YOUR TAPESTRY
Hanging your tapestry is straightforward: all tapestries are lined and have a tunnel or sleeve at the top through which to slide a hanging pole.
Unlike a framed print, tapestries are woven individually on a loom and part of their individuality is that there may be hanging undulations and they may not be perfectly square. It is natural for them to expand and contract slightly - a certain amount of waving or minor curling is part of the charm!
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Tapestries are woven using cottons, rayons and wool. Whilst hanging them in direct sunlight is not ideal they are very durable and colour fast in normal settings.
The only care your tapestry needs is to remove any dust periodically by using a soft brush or the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner. In the unlikely event that soiling occurs, the hanging may be dry cleaned.
